St. Theresa Roman Catholic Church has an established traditional church music program, which is directed by our Choirmaster, Dr. Carolina Flores, and accompanied by our Organist, Dr. Aymeric Dupré la Tour. There are four choral ensembles: The Adult Choir, The Petit Choir, The Children’s choir, and The Schola. The Adult Choir is composed of 35-40 singers ages 14 and up, including four professional section leaders (SATB). The Petit Choir is an auditioned adult chamber choir of 12-16 members, which also includes four professional section leaders. This choir specializes in a cappella music. The Children’s Choir, co-directed by Reuben Barnes, is for children grades 3 through 8. This choir sings for Sunday liturgies twice a month. The Schola is an all-professional ensemble of 4-8 singers. This group provides music for the Tridentine Masses and the Tenebrae service.
All choirs sing high quality literature ranging from Gregorian chant and polyphony through 21st century. They prepare music for all Sunday liturgies (September-June) and perform at special services and Masses throughout the year, including our Annual Festival of Lessons and Carols.
The sanctuary has a three-manual 38-rank Peragallo pipe organ with 7 additional Walker electronic stops, mainly in the Pedal division. Adjacent to the organ, there is a Yamaha concert grand.
The Music Ministry at St. Theresa provides an opportunity for people of all ages and backgrounds to glorify God by developing and sharing with each other the talents and gifts that He has given them.
Music is a subtle and effective evangelical tool and reinforces the message of the Scriptures read during the liturgy. The thematic unification of scripture, prayers, sermon, and music enables the congregation to better participate in the act of worship, bringing us closer to one another, to Jesus Christ and His church.
